I am an Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor
What is Integrative Therapeutic Counselling?
Being an integrative counsellor means that I can use a range of methods to help you depending on your personality and situation. One of the central principles of my therapy is that I believe you hold the answers within yourself and I help you to find those answers. Other tried and tested methods include:
Exploring the ‘here and now’ in the therapy room to pick up patterns and feelings
Supporting people to integrate body and mind as too often they are not working together, and this can have a detrimental effect on our health and wellbeing
Exploring transactions in relationships
Working creatively (for instance with art, stories or objects) to increase self-awareness and expression
As I am also a personal performance coach, I can work in a very goal orientated way if appropriate.
How does therapeutic counselling work?
Counselling offers a safe and confidential space to explore what is going on for you so that we can find a way to move forward together. The interventions I use in my counselling can raise your awareness of what is going on so that we can work together to reach your goals.
What happens in a session?
In the first session I will talk to you about our counselling contract so that you can be sure you are receiving safe and ethical counselling. We will also talk about what you would like to achieve from the counselling, and you can ask any questions about the counselling you may have. After this we will move forward at your pace, working on the issues you would like to bring to the sessions. We regularly review the work to check we are going in the right direction.
Who can I help?
I have experience of working with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, identity, relationship issues, bereavement, trauma, panic, stress and bullying. I also have special interest and experience of working with women’s issues and issues around fertility and loss.
I like to ensure my counselling is a collaborative experience, so I am guided by you and welcome feedback on any of the interventions used.
Please rest assured that as a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists I adhere to their ethical framework.
